555 Days Towards Level 9000: Day 43.
Time Awake: 6:01 a.m. (because some things are important enough to wake up super early for)
People have various words and phrases to get them through the day. For some, it’s mantras. Others utilize prayers. Still others read phrases spoken by well-known speakifiers.
In my room, I have a few quotes posted that serve to subconsciously psyche me up. On the door, the words “Be the hero of your own story,” inspired by Joseph Campbell’s Hero Myth. The phrase itself probably was spoken by one of the speakifiers whose work I read.
Next to the mirror is a paper with the words “Go ostentatious.” It’s a shorter version of something my friend and mentor Joe once said” “When in doubt, go ostentatious.” It was said randomly so I wrote it down as a Joe-ism.Ostentatious means being larger than life to attract notice and attention.
On the wall to the side of the door is the phrase, “Get after it,” which is regularly spoken by retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink in his books and podcast. “Get after it” — go after the things you want in Life, fully, with your complete attention and focus.
And a phrase I have been saying lately: “Soak me in!” In various places, on the street, in front of random strangers and people who know me well alike.
“Soak me in!” charges me up, gets me motivated and sets laser-focus on goals to be achieved. It’s silly, but effective.
