555 Days Towards Level 9000: Day 49

555 Days Towards Level 9000: Day 49.
Time Awake: 9:20 a.m.
Discipline. It’s a concept that makes people uneasy. They think that by being disciplined, they are going to miss out on Life and not be able to do the things they want to do.
That mindset couldn’t be more mistaken.
It is discipline that helps us to acquire focus, which helps us to flow and accomplish that which we need to do and that which we wish to do.
I was reminded today of discipline pertaining to writing. I often proclaim myself as a writer. And I do write: this entry for example. But it’s not enough. To be the writer that I claim to be, I need to be creating content for my website. I need to be writing stories involving character development, rich plots and compelling storytelling.
That reminder was completely accurate and I appreciate it for the raw honesty. In order to reclaim myself as a Writer, I need the discipline to to do just that each day. Every day.
Helpful in maintaining discipline is to lump tasks together. For example, I could do my writing while eating Hungryman Breakfast. The brain will associate the tasks together and doing both would become a habit.
In addition, I recalled the concept of non-negotiables — essentially, tasks or habits that you decide MUST happen each and every day, without question. It’s not negotiable.
Combining discipline with lumping and non-negotiables is a great trio for accomplishing anything.
Retired Navy SEAL and speaker Jocko Willink has a phrase: “Discipline Equals Freedom.” Absolutely.Disciplined mind, disciplined actions, free to do that which moves us.
