555 Days Towards Level 9000: Day 67

555 Days Towards Level 9000: Day 67.
Time Awake: 8:09 a.m.
If people know one thing about me, it’s that I take pride in my sense of loyalty. Friends, family members or people who are close to me, if you need me I will be there. And I will help in any way that I can.
My sense of loyalty seems to extend to other aspects of my Life. I’ve been using the same laptop for three years and have used the same computer brand for my entire life. I have seen the same doctor for the past 18 years. I treat my clothes with respect and great care, and many pieces I’ve had and worn for 10 to 15 years. I frequent the same Starbucks and local eateries. I get to know the staff and they in turn value me as a regular.
And then there’s my phone, which I’ve had since 2012. The LG Reflex, my Trusted Advisor. It’s a slide phone with a hip keypad. It’s not a smart phone. It doesn’t like the Internet. There isn’t any GPS capability. Also: it drops calls as it pleases, doesn’t always send or receive texts, hates emojis and has been slowly losing pieces of itself for the past year. It’s an elderly phone. It’s probably had enough of its routine of being a phone.
In this case, loyalty has been great, but an update may be prudent. At some point, this phone will be incompatible with any phone network. I, who wish to continue living in today’s modern society, need to know modernized technology. To know it is to utilize it. And that requires an update.
So I went to the Sprint store to inquire how this works. There is no such thing as a “free upgrade” anymore; now there is a system where one leases their phone for a particular amount of time. Presumably to then upgrade to the next version when it becomes available. This information in hand, I am informed enough to make the appropriate upgrading decisions (when cash is on hand, at least).
This kind of update will apply to things like a laptop. All in due time.
And it doesn’t mean that all recipients of my loyalty require a so-called update. Some do, and those changes will come in their own due time.
For all else, especially the people, my loyalty is my Life and is For Life.
